The Technology Empowerment Institute is the advisory group to the NAMI San Diego Tech CAFÉ. The purpose is to review current websites and mobile device applications, assist in translating the information collected from the Tech CAFÉ participants to develop of user-friendly mobile applications, and recommend an efficient design for device and software distribution systems. The Institute is composed of 10 community leaders, thinkers and doers committed to sharing and combing ideas that will ultimately meet or exceed the goals of the Tech CAFÉ.

 


 

LegalaidLegal Aid is a subcontractor with NAMI San Diego Consumer and Family Empowerment project designed to provide Senior Mobile Lab services to train and assist 250 seniors on various technologies, assist them with health care benefits, and educate them regarding legal issues. The curriculum includes word processing, internet access, social networking and app usage for health information. Seniors learn how to navigate the internet, Skype, watch webinars, YouTube video, establish and maintain email accounts, search for jobs online, and learn how to capture and send photos. Seniors participate in Legal Aid’s satisfaction surveys after each computer training or use of the mobile lab. Legal Aid’s Senior Mobile Lab also provides access to a virtual classroom which provide training on various topics. Some topics include healthy nutrition “Eat Fresh.org” workshops, cyber scams, etc.

The Senior Mobile Lab travels county wide to seniors living with mental illness and their family members. The locations vary from independent Living Associations, Aging and Independence Services congregate nutrition sites, libraries, Senior Centers, Clubhouses, and low income Housing Facilities.
